Various forms of trauma-based therapy can be implemented to help individuals heal from traumatic life experiences.
These approaches typically begin with psychoeducation to help clients understand their symptoms.
This treatment offers a safe space to process experiences, guides clients in learning new strategies for coping, and supports them in re-creating a sense of security while reinforcing resilience and empowerment.
All clinicians at Therapy West have training in the treatment of trauma and adopt a trauma-informed lens to supporting clients in managing their presenting concerns.
Bio-Psycho-Social Approach to Psychotherapy
Bio-psycho-social approach to psychotherapy refers to a systemic framework or way of looking at and understanding an issue by integrating across various levels that affect human behaviour. Rather than taking a narrow view and focusing only on the symptom, we expand our lens wider and try to understand other aspects of your life that may be contributing to your symptom.
• Biological factors refers to everything to do with one’s physical make up that includes their genetics, their temperament, their physical abilities including any physical limitations, as well as physical health issues.
• Psychological factors refer to your factors such as your pattern of thinking, feeling and behaving, your personality, your personal views, attitudes and beliefs.
• Social factors refers to the social groups you are participating in and shape your thoughts, feelings and behaviour. This includes your relationships with friend, family, classmates, coworkers, etc., the community your belong to, your work or school, ethnic and/or racial group, country, etc.
